Why do I need a coach?

Even the most faithful and gifted leaders need someone who will walk alongside them. Coaching is not about weakness—it is about stewardship. God has entrusted you with influence, and coaching helps you maximize it. Here are four reasons why every leader benefits from coaching:

1. You Have Blind Spots
We all do. You cannot see what you cannot see and you do not know what you do not know; and that gap leads to wasted energy, missed opportunities, and unnecessary frustration. A coach shines light on blind spots and helps you take specific, practical steps toward greater effectiveness.

2. You Rarely Receive Honest Feedback
The higher you rise in leadership, the less likely people are to tell you the truth. Staff and congregants often withhold feedback out of fear of hurting you—or of your response. A coach provides objective, constructive feedback and helps you process it into meaningful growth.

3. You Are Stuck on the Ministry Treadmill
It is easy to slip into autopilot—doing more and more while experiencing less joy and less fruit. Coaching creates intentional space to step off the treadmill, think deeply, refocus on what matters most, and make Spirit-led decisions with clarity and confidence.

4. Coaching Works
Research consistently shows that coaching equips and empowers you to be a better leader:
99% of the individuals and organizations who engage with a coach report being satisfied or very satisfied with the experience and 96% say they would willingly go through the coaching process again (Coaching Statistics You Need to Know, Zhou, 2024).
80% of those coached notice improved self‐confidence; more than 70% see gains in work performance, relational health, or communication (Leadership Coaching Statistics: What You Need to Know, Kapable, 2024).
Coaching isn’t just beneficial—it also pays off: many studies show a 7× return on investment, with some executive coaching programs reporting as high as 788% ROI due to improvements in productivity, leadership behavior, and employee satisfaction (How Coaching Builds Stronger Leaders, Vantedge Research, 2023).

How can coaching help me and my ministry?

A coach is an objective thought partner—someone who is fully for you and with you. Coaching strengthens both your ministry and your personal walk with Christ by helping you:

  • Think More Deeply about what truly matters and where God is leading.
  • Access Tools and Resources that clarify vision, build strategy, and grow effectiveness.
  • Stay Accountable and Motivated to do what you know you need to do—but might otherwise postpone.

At its heart, coaching is a sacred partnership. It encourages a “forced focus” on what matters most—freeing you from constant distractions and empowering you to lead with courage, clarity, and faithfulness.
